What to
expect: The processes we follow when building a website
1.
Planning Phase We provide
a free consultation to first meet you to ascertain the Purpose, the
Scope, and the Requirements
of your site.
In
some cases, meetings can be done over the phone, but you must have a
clear idea of what you want to achieve, the look and feel you want,
how many pages required, tell us about a similar competitors website
you think your site could look like, and be able to email or post all
content.
2a.
Spec
Building Phase
Specifications of everything you want are defined and documented. We
provide
you a proposal outlining
structure and design with a timeframe and cost estimate. You are required
to "sign-off" - give your approval if you want to proceed
with development, along with a deposit of $100 or 10%.
2b.
Content Assembling by client
You
will be required to gather all your business information, files of logos,
stationery, brochures and any images of the business.
If you
are creating your own content, we will be expecting you to make a start
on this too, and we will help you and guide you in the right direction.
Remember
that besides collating factual information for the various pages, the
home page must contain a short overview of the entire business, and
contain keywords and "pull" words, being fully descriptive
and persuasive, why your niche product or service
is so unique that it is reason enough why viewers should continue to
engage with your site.
3.
Design
Shell Phase During
this phase we activate
the pre-designed template, or design an original template (shell structure)
ie..this comprises the general layout of site navigation and dynamic
elements and we present it to you as
a prototype (mockup)
of the site without content. You
will also need to see it and approve this stage, so that the rest of
the structure can continue be built.
4.
Content Creation Phase
When the templates are ready, we can start loading in content.
If you have no content and want us to write it, we would have to have
received all your complete business info including full description
of products and services, staff profiles, objectives etc so we can start
creating it. At this phase we also create and prepare graphics and image
media.
Accepted
file types for you to email / send us:
HTML pages, Jpegs, Gifs, PDF's.
Softwares we use:
Microsoft
Office 7, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Acrobat Reader.
5.
Coding Phase
Coding the Content
includes
formatting and linking text, coding forms, newsletters etc into the
templates. Integrating the media types and linking dynamic content,
ie. navigation menus.
6. Website Launch Phase.
Before the site goes "Live", all pages are uploaded to a non-live
provisional site for
the purpose of first draft viewing. You
get to see how it is all shaping up.
7.
Testing
and Tuning Phase.
We check everything is functioning as it should. We do Integration testing,
Stress testing, Scalablity testing, load testing, resolution testing,
cross-browser compatibility testing. Both automated testing and manual
testing are done. Then you test drive the site and give feedback so
we can fine tune.
When you approve (sign off) - then we "Go Live" and publish
your site. Final payment is due then. You will have 30 days to amend
any content and after this time it will be charged for as separate maintenance
and updating.
Promotion
and maintenance are phases independent to our website building package.
8.
Promotion Phase:
A
vital phase after the site is finished is to prepare your site for Search
Engine submission. Metatags and Search Engine Optimisation is applied
to each page organically. Keywords,
Tags, headings and links: We
make sure these tags correspond to body content, and correctly comply
with "search" criteria.
We
then submit your site to online Directories and Search Engines. Without
this phase, your site may not get found or indexed by Google.
9.
Maintenance and Updating Phase: After
a little while, every site needs updating and refreshing. You may want
to tweak your site, update it, or add things that were missing.Web Stats
need to be analysed, and adjustments made if there has been poor public
response in some areas. Your page rank position with Google also needs
to be checked. Google regularly changes its tactics and criteria for
listing.
Stale
sites that are not updated can start dropping in popularity ranks. This
phase is done separately further down the track.
Hints
and Tips to ensure your website is a success:
Marketing,
Promoting and updating: We suggest
you ensure you have sound marketing strategies in place to further aid
the promotion of your website; i.e. On-line: you can write and post
regular blogs, articles, newsletters, send out email invitiations, advertise
on other sites, and create reciprocal links. Off-line strategies might
be ensuring your web address is added to all your advertising material.
i.e. in your stationery such as business cards, fliers, or in papers,
tv and radio ads. The content and keywords of your website needs regular
updating.
We
quote separately by the hour for this recurring maintenance phase.
